@MASSIF101 No they didn't read A Splendid Exchange, How Trade Shaped the World and it will clearly state multiple times that the "Aztecs, Incans, Mayans, and any other Native civilization did not make use of the wheel, the sole exception being what appears to be a childrens toy discovered in what is present day Mexico city." As for the various African empires, their constant warlords/empires/etc. largely existed post 1500's following colonization, with little effective government beforehand.

I think it's the will of the people, not the "oppression" by the Europeans.
